| Ao largo da costa de Cancún, a apenas 19,7 quilômetros do Mar do Caribe, encontra-se Isla Mujeres, "um pequeno paraíso onde a história maia, a tranquilidade da ilha e o turismo sustentável convergem" ( Riviera Maya News , 2025). Seu nome vem dos tempos pré-colombianos, quando a ilha era considerada um santuário dedicado a Ixchel, a deusa do amor e da lua. Segundo a Wikipédia (s.d.), "os espanhóis encontraram figuras femininas feitas de pedra e argila e deram ao lugar o nome de Isla Mujeres". Durante séculos, foi refúgio de pescadores, piratas e comerciantes caribenhos, tornando-se uma joia turística com identidade própria. Ao contrário de Cancún, Isla Mujeres mantém um ritmo tranquilo e uma autenticidade que encanta quem busca uma pausa da agitação. Como resume a Travel + Leisure (2024), "é um destino que combina praias paradisíacas, cultura vibrante e um senso de comunidade que se perdeu em muitos outros pontos turísticos". O que torna a Isla Mujeres única Isla Mujeres é uma das menores ilhas habitadas do México. Em 2015, foi declarada Pueblo Mágico (Cidade Mágica) por seu valor natural e cultural. Em suas margens fica o Museu Subaquático de Arte (MUSA) , um projeto único com mais de 500 esculturas submersas. Todo mês de agosto, a ilha celebra o Festival do Tubarão-Baleia , uma celebração ecológica que combina cultura, dança e ecoturismo.
