Cinco iniciativas legislativas buscam enfrentar ameaças ambientais que afetam ecossistemas, cidades e recursos hídricos

devem ser avaliados pela quantidade de resíduos recolhidos e pela regularidade da manutenção. Para as florestas e bacias hidrográficas, indicadores relevantes incluem a proteção efetiva do território e as condições dos recursos hídricos.

A conservação também tem implicações para o futuro do turismo no Panamá. Florestas, rios e áreas costeiras sustentam paisagens e experiências que atraem visitantes, desde ambientes naturais próximos à capital até destinos litorâneos. Proteger esses espaços não garante, por si só, um turismo sustentável, mas ajuda a preservar parte dos recursos naturais dos quais o setor depende.
