Cuba enfrenta una nueva escalada de tensión con Estados Unidos

El turismo sigue, pero la crisis podría afectar los viajes.

El presidente de Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, acusó a Estados Unidos de intensificar la presión económica sobre la isla y de intentar provocar un cambio de gobierno mediante el endurecimiento de las sanciones. Las declaraciones fueron pronunciadas durante la conmemoración del aniversario del asalto al Cuartel Moncada, uno de los acontecimientos más importantes de la historia de la Revolución Cubana. Aunque el enfrentamiento se desarrolla en el plano político y diplomático, la situación también plantea interrogantes para quienes tienen previsto visitar Cuba en los próximos meses.

Las acusaciones llegan en un momento especialmente complejo para la isla. Cuba enfrenta una prolongada crisis económica marcada por la escasez de combustible, frecuentes apagones, dificultades para importar bienes esenciales y una disminución en la disponibilidad de productos básicos. Este panorama ha afectado distintos sectores de la economía, incluido el turismo, una de las principales fuentes de ingresos del país.

A pesar de estas dificultades, Cuba continúa recibiendo visitantes internacionales y mantiene abiertos sus principales destinos turísticos. Sin embargo, quienes viajen a la isla podrían encontrar una experiencia diferente a la de años anteriores. Los cortes de electricidad pueden afectar el funcionamiento de pequeños hoteles, restaurantes privados y comercios, mientras que la escasez de combustible puede generar cambios en excursiones, traslados terrestres y horarios del transporte.

Los hoteles de mayor categoría suelen contar con plantas eléctricas de respaldo que les permiten mantener la mayoría de sus servicios durante los apagones. No ocurre lo mismo con muchos negocios privados, que en ocasiones deben reducir horarios o suspender temporalmente sus actividades mientras se restablece el suministro eléctrico. Para los viajeros, esto significa que la flexibilidad será un factor importante al momento de planificar sus recorridos.

El transporte representa otro aspecto a tener en cuenta. La disponibilidad limitada de combustible ha reducido la frecuencia de algunos servicios y puede ocasionar retrasos o modificaciones en los desplazamientos entre ciudades. Por ello, especialistas en viajes recomiendan confirmar reservas con anticipación, prever tiempos adicionales para los traslados y mantener un itinerario lo suficientemente flexible para adaptarse a cambios de última hora.

Pese al complejo contexto económico, Cuba sigue ofreciendo algunos de los destinos más atractivos del Caribe. La Habana Vieja, declarada Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO, continúa siendo uno de los principales centros culturales de la región, mientras que lugares como Viñales, Trinidad, Cienfuegos, Varadero y los cayos del norte conservan su atractivo por su patrimonio histórico, arquitectura colonial y playas de aguas cristalinas.

Las recientes declaraciones de Díaz-Canel también reflejan el deterioro de las relaciones entre La Habana y Washington, una situación que podría mantener la incertidumbre sobre futuras medidas económicas o comerciales. Aunque hasta el momento no se han anunciado nuevas restricciones que afecten directamente a los turistas internacionales, la evolución de la crisis seguirá siendo un factor relevante para la industria turística cubana y para quienes planean visitar la isla.

Para quienes ya tienen un viaje programado, la recomendación es mantenerse informados antes y durante la visita, confirmar el estado de vuelos y alojamientos, llevar planes alternativos para algunas actividades y viajar con expectativas realistas sobre los servicios disponibles. Con una adecuada planificación, Cuba continúa siendo un destino de enorme riqueza cultural e histórica, aunque las condiciones actuales requieren mayor preparación que en años anteriores.
