A Suprema Corte dos Estados Unidos proferiu uma decisão de grande relevância nacional e internacional ao rejeitar a tentativa do governo Trump de restringir a cidadania por nascimento, uma medida que teria afetado milhares de famílias imigrantes e desencadeado um dos debates constitucionais mais importantes das últimas décadas.

A decisão reafirma a interpretação histórica da Décima Quarta Emenda da Constituição dos Estados Unidos, adotada em 1868 após a Guerra Civil, que estabelece que toda pessoa nascida em território americano e sob sua jurisdição tem direito à cidadania. Há mais de 150 anos, essa proteção constitui um dos princípios fundamentais do sistema jurídico do país.
