Os Estados Unidos estão intensificando uma das campanhas de pressão mais agressivas contra Cuba em décadas, combinando investigações criminais, sanções econômicas, isolamento diplomático e movimentos militares simbólicos enquanto as relações entre Washington e Havana entram em uma nova fase de confrontação. Os recentes anúncios do Departamento de Justiça americano, juntamente com outras ações da administração Trump, estão redefinindo o cenário geopolítico do Caribe e reacendendo temores de uma prolongada crise regional. Os últimos acontecimentos ocorrem após a histórica acusação federal contra o ex-presidente cubano Raúl Castro pelo derrubamento, em 1996, de duas aeronaves civis operadas pela organização do exílio Brothers to the Rescue. Os promotores americanos acusam Castro e vários oficiais militares cubanos de conspiração, destruição de aeronaves e assassinato relacionados à morte de quatro pessoas durante o incidente ocorrido no período pós-Guerra Fria. Segundo diversos relatórios, a ofensiva legal está sendo coordenada por promotores federais em Miami sob liderança de Jason Reding Quiñones, um procurador nomeado por Trump e fortemente ligado a círculos políticos conservadores cubano-americanos do sul da Flórida. Analistas descrevem as investigações como parte de uma estratégia mais ampla destinada a aumentar a pressão sobre o governo cubano em meio a uma das piores crises econômicas e energéticas da ilha em décadas. As ações do Departamento de Justiça coincidem com uma série de medidas adicionais anunciadas pela Casa Branca e pelo Departamento de Estado nos últimos meses. Washington ampliou sanções contra altos funcionários cubanos, endureceu restrições financeiras, aumentou a pressão sobre as importações energéticas de Cuba e intensificou sua retórica contra a liderança política de Havana. Autoridades americanas afirmam que as medidas buscam promover reformas democráticas e responsabilização por violações de direitos humanos e incidentes históricos envolvendo cidadãos dos Estados Unidos. Ao mesmo tempo, o deslocamento do porta-aviões nuclear USS Nimitz para o Caribe elevou as tensões regionais e alimentou especulações sobre uma possível escalada estratégica mais ampla. Embora as autoridades americanas insistam que o deslocamento faz parte de operações militares rotineiras e exercícios regionais, autoridades cubanas e governos aliados na América Latina interpretam a movimentação como uma demonstração de força destinada a pressionar Havana política e psicologicamente.
