Honduras quer seu ex-presidente de volta outra vez muito em breve agora publicamente

O retorno de Juan Orlando Hernández reabriu uma das crises políticas mais explosivas da América Latina

Poucos dias após recuperar sua liberdade nos Estados Unidos graças a um controverso perdão presidencial concedido por Donald Trump, o ex-presidente hondurenho Juan Orlando Hernández voltou ao centro de uma tempestade política internacional. As autoridades de Honduras emitiram agora um mandado internacional de prisão contra o ex-mandatário, reacendendo um dos maiores escândalos de corrupção e narcopolítica da história recente da América Latina.

O mandado de prisão, anunciado pelo procurador-geral Johel Antonio Zelaya, surgiu menos de uma semana após Hernández ser libertado inesperadamente de uma prisão federal norte-americana. Zelaya instruiu investigadores criminais hondurenhos e a Interpol a perseguirem internacionalmente o ex-líder, elevando as tensões entre Tegucigalpa e Washington e mergulhando novamente Honduras em uma crise constitucional e política durante uma temporada eleitoral altamente polarizada.

Durante anos, Juan Orlando Hernández — conhecido popularmente como “JOH” — representou um dos aliados mais próximos de Washington na América Central. Durante sua presidência entre 2014 e 2022, apresentou-se internacionalmente como um forte parceiro antidrogas e antimigração dos Estados Unidos. Porém, nos bastidores, promotores norte-americanos acabariam acusando-o de ajudar a transformar Honduras no que descreveram como um “narcoestado” protegido pelo poder político, estruturas militares e redes do crime organizado.

As acusações chocaram o hemisfério porque Hernández não foi acusado apenas de corrupção: tornou-se um dos poucos ex-chefes de Estado condenados em tribunal federal norte-americano por narcotráfico. Em março de 2024, um júri em Manhattan o considerou culpado de conspirar para importar cocaína para os Estados Unidos, conspiração armada e colaboração com grandes organizações transnacionais do narcotráfico, incluindo figuras ligadas ao Cartel de Sinaloa.

Segundo as provas apresentadas no julgamento, traficantes teriam subornado políticos hondurenhos, forças de segurança e funcionários eleitorais enquanto utilizavam instituições estatais para garantir rotas seguras de cocaína rumo à América do Norte. Os promotores alegaram especificamente que Hernández recebeu milhões de dólares de organizações criminosas em troca de proteção política.

O escândalo abalou profundamente a imagem internacional de Honduras e intensificou a indignação interna relacionada à corrupção, violência, migração e colapso institucional. Durante o governo Hernández, Honduras tornou-se um dos países mais violentos do mundo fora de zonas de guerra ativa, enquanto milhares de hondurenhos se juntaram a caravanas migratórias rumo aos Estados Unidos fugindo da pobreza, extorsão e instabilidade política.

Em 2022, pouco após deixar o poder, Hernández foi dramaticamente preso em sua residência em Tegucigalpa antes de ser extraditado aos Estados Unidos algemado e sob forte escolta policial e militar. As imagens do ex-presidente acorrentado e cercado por agentes armados tornaram-se algumas das fotografias políticas mais marcantes da história recente hondurenha.

Então veio a reviravolta extraordinária. No final de novembro de 2025, Donald Trump anunciou que concederia a Hernández um “perdão total e completo”, argumentando que o ex-presidente hondurenho havia sido tratado injustamente pelo sistema judicial americano. Hernández foi libertado da prisão em 1º de dezembro após cumprir apenas parte de sua sentença de 45 anos.

Críticos descreveram o perdão como uma das intervenções de política externa mais controversas do segundo mandato de Trump. Analistas observaram que Hernández manteve estreitos vínculos políticos com Trump durante seus anos no poder, especialmente em temas de controle migratório e cooperação regional de segurança.

Para muitos hondurenhos, o episódio reforçou a percepção histórica de que elites políticas poderosas operam acima da lei enquanto cidadãos comuns sofrem as consequências da corrupção e do crime organizado.

O mandado de prisão emitido por Honduras cria agora uma situação legal e diplomática extremamente volátil. A equipe jurídica de Hernández afirma que o processo possui motivações políticas e argumenta que o ex-presidente enfrenta ameaças de segurança caso retorne a Honduras.

Enquanto isso, a crise se transforma em símbolo mais amplo da luta regional contra corrupção das elites, narcopolítica e instituições democráticas frágeis. Honduras passou anos tentando reconstruir a confiança pública após repetidos escândalos envolvendo fraude eleitoral, infiltração do crime organizado e violência política.

Observadores internacionais alertam que a situação poderá tensionar ainda mais as relações entre Estados Unidos e América Latina. Washington passou anos apresentando a condenação de Hernández como prova de que até líderes políticos poderosos poderiam ser responsabilizados por corrupção e narcotráfico.

Por enquanto, Juan Orlando Hernández permanece simultaneamente livre e procurado: perdoado em Washington, buscado em Tegucigalpa e transformado em uma das figuras políticas mais polarizadoras da América Latina contemporânea.
