La ciudad canadiense obliga a que los boletos del Mundial 2026 se revendan únicamente a precio original en la plataforma oficial de FIFA

En un contexto donde los precios del Mundial 2026 han generado creciente frustración entre aficionados de todo el mundo, Toronto acaba de convertirse en el centro de un debate global sobre acceso, especulación y el verdadero costo de vivir el fútbol. La ciudad canadiense será la primera sede del torneo donde los boletos revendidos oficialmente deberán mantenerse al precio original, sin aumentos ni especulación.

La medida surge tras la entrada en vigor de una legislación en Ontario conocida como Putting Fans First Act, diseñada para frenar la reventa abusiva de entradas en eventos masivos. Como consecuencia, FIFA tuvo que ajustar su marketplace oficial para cumplir con la normativa local, limitando la reventa de boletos de los partidos en Toronto únicamente a valor nominal.

El cambio representa un contraste significativo frente al panorama general del Mundial 2026, donde los precios de entradas y reventas han alcanzado cifras récord. En otros mercados, boletos para partidos de alta demanda —incluyendo la final— han aparecido en plataformas secundarias por millones de dólares, intensificando las críticas hacia FIFA y su modelo de precios variables.

Toronto, sin embargo, plantea una lógica diferente: priorizar el acceso de los aficionados locales y reducir el margen de especulación. Para muchos seguidores del fútbol, la decisión representa una señal de que los gobiernos locales aún pueden intervenir para limitar prácticas consideradas excluyentes dentro del deporte global.

La discusión ocurre en un momento especialmente sensible para FIFA. El torneo de 2026 —el primero con 48 selecciones y 104 partidos— ha generado una demanda histórica, con más de 500 millones de solicitudes de boletos registradas hasta ahora.

Ese interés masivo ha impulsado un sistema de precios cada vez más dinámico, inspirado en modelos utilizados en conciertos y grandes espectáculos deportivos en Estados Unidos. FIFA ha defendido esta estrategia argumentando que refleja las condiciones reales del mercado y evita que los revendedores externos capturen completamente las ganancias.

Sin embargo, las críticas continúan creciendo. Para muchos aficionados, el Mundial corre el riesgo de transformarse en una experiencia inaccesible para sectores populares, alejándose de la identidad histórica del fútbol como fenómeno masivo y transversal. El debate ya no gira únicamente alrededor del deporte, sino sobre quién puede permitirse participar en él.

La decisión de Toronto también revela algo más amplio: las ciudades anfitrionas ya no actúan únicamente como escenarios del evento, sino como actores capaces de imponer condiciones sobre cómo se consume y distribuye la experiencia deportiva. En este caso, la regulación local terminó influyendo directamente en la política comercial de una de las organizaciones más poderosas del deporte mundial.

Aunque la medida aplica únicamente para los partidos celebrados en Toronto, el precedente podría extender la discusión hacia futuras sedes y otros eventos internacionales. A medida que el entretenimiento deportivo se vuelve más costoso y corporativo, aumenta también la presión para encontrar mecanismos que protejan el acceso del público general.

En última instancia, la controversia alrededor de los boletos del Mundial 2026 refleja una tensión más profunda entre negocio y pertenencia. Porque para millones de personas, asistir a un Mundial no es simplemente comprar una entrada: es formar parte de una memoria colectiva.
