Perú destituye al presidente interino José Jerí a pocas semanas de las elecciones

El Congreso destituye a José Jerí por presunta corrupción.

El Congreso de Perú destituyó el 17 de febrero de 2026 al presidente interino José Jerí, tras una moción de censura aprobada con 75 votos a favor, 24 en contra y 3 abstenciones, marcando otro episodio de inestabilidad institucional en el país andino.

Jerí, abogado de 39 años vinculado al partido Somos Perú, asumió la Presidencia el 10 de octubre de 2025 después de que el Congreso removiera a la presidenta Dina Boluarte. La destitución se produjo en medio de investigaciones fiscales por presunto tráfico de influencias e irregularidades, especialmente vinculadas a reuniones no registradas con empresarios chinos. Un video filtrado mostró a Jerí entrando encapuchado a un restaurante chino en Lima para reunirse con el empresario Zhihua Yang, que tiene contratos con el Estado peruano, lo que desató el escándalo bautizado como “Chifagate”.

Jerí negó cualquier irregularidad, argumentando que las reuniones eran para la organización de un evento cultural, pero el Congreso consideró que existía riesgo de corrupción y procedió con la moción de censura. Perú suma así ocho cambios presidenciales en menos de una década, reflejo de un ciclo prolongado de crisis política desde 2016, marcado por acusaciones de corrupción y enfrentamientos entre poderes.

Tras la destitución, el cargo quedó vacante y el Congreso convocó un pleno extraordinario el 18 de febrero para elegir a un nuevo presidente interino, quien gobernará hasta el 28 de julio de 2026, cuando el ganador de las elecciones generales del 12 de abril tome posesión. Hasta ahora, la banca del presidente del Congreso, Fernando Rospigliosi, también está vacante, por lo que las bancadas parlamentarias deben acordar un candidato de consenso.

Analistas señalan que este episodio podría afectar la confianza política e inversión extranjera, especialmente en sectores estratégicos como minería e infraestructura, aunque la economía peruana creció alrededor del 3.4% en 2025, mostrando cierta resiliencia. La sucesión de presidentes también influye en la percepción ciudadana, ya que las encuestas reflejan altos niveles de desconfianza en las instituciones políticas y la cercanía de las elecciones podría intensificar la polarización social. Con 34 candidatos registrados, Rafael López Aliaga lidera las encuestas, seguido por Keiko Fujimori, y se espera una segunda vuelta en junio si ningún candidato supera el 50% de votos. Esta crisis subraya cómo la inestabilidad institucional continúa siendo un desafío central para la gobernabilidad en Perú, justo antes de un periodo electoral crítico.
