Carney impõe limites diante das ameaças de Trump

Ottawa descarta ceder a pressões e prepara plano de contingência comercial

A tensão política entre Ottawa e Washington voltou a aumentar após declarações recentes de Donald Trump, que deixou aberta a possibilidade de impor novas tarifas sobre produtos canadenses caso considere que os acordos atuais “não beneficiam suficientemente os Estados Unidos”. A resposta de Mark Carney foi rápida e direta: o Canadá não negociará sob ameaças.

Falando da capital canadense, o primeiro-ministro destacou que seu governo está preparado para acionar mecanismos de defesa comercial caso medidas unilaterais sejam implementadas. “As regras existem para serem respeitadas, não reinterpretadas por conveniência política”, afirmou, transmitindo firmeza sem fechar as portas ao diálogo.

O comércio bilateral entre os dois países movimenta centenas de bilhões de dólares por ano e sustenta cadeias produtivas profundamente integradas, especialmente nos setores automotivo, energético e agrícola. Analistas alertam que qualquer interrupção abrupta pode afetar empregos em ambos os lados da fronteira, encarecer produtos e gerar volatilidade nos mercados financeiros.

Carney também orientou sua equipe econômica a avaliar contramedidas proporcionais, incluindo tarifas recíprocas e a ativação de painéis de resolução de disputas previstos em acordos comerciais regionais. Autoridades canadenses enfatizaram que a prioridade é preservar a estabilidade sem aceitar condições consideradas desvantajosas.

Ao mesmo tempo, o cenário político nos Estados Unidos sugere que o endurecimento do discurso comercial pode fazer parte de uma estratégia mais ampla de negociação. Especialistas em relações internacionais, contudo, alertam que ameaças tarifárias recorrentes podem desgastar a confiança bilateral e comprometer a previsibilidade necessária para investimentos de longo prazo.

Mais do que a troca de declarações, o desafio imediato para ambos os governos será evitar que a retórica se transforme em medidas executivas capazes de alterar o equilíbrio econômico regional. Por ora, Ottawa aposta em firmeza institucional e diplomacia estratégica enquanto acompanha atentamente os próximos movimentos da Casa Branca.
