Um confronto em águas cubanas deixa quatro mortos, seis feridos e uma crise diplomática que se agrava a cada hora

No dia 25 de fevereiro de 2026, as águas próximas ao Cayo Falcones, em Villa Clara, foram palco de um violento confronto que abalou as já frágeis relações entre Havana e Washington. Uma lancha rápida registrada na Flórida penetrou nas águas territoriais cubanas e foi interceptada pela guarda costeira da ilha, deixando um saldo de quatro mortos, seis detidos e um debate aberto sobre soberania e verdade.

O Ministério do Interior cubano afirmou que a embarcação transportava dez homens armados com rifles de assalto, pistolas, coquetéis molotov e coletes à prova de balas, com o objetivo de realizar uma infiltração de caráter terrorista. Segundo Havana, os ocupantes atiraram primeiro contra a patrulha cubana, ferindo seu comandante, após o que as forças cubanas responderam. Quatro pessoas morreram, entre elas ao menos um cidadão norte-americano confirmado por autoridades de Washington.

A reação norte-americana foi cautelosa, mas firme. O secretário de Estado Marco Rubio reconheceu que a embarcação não fazia parte de nenhuma operação governamental, mas advertiu que seu país verificaria os fatos de forma independente. O Departamento de Segurança Interna, a Guarda Costeira e o Ministério Público do Distrito Sul da Flórida abriram investigações paralelas, enquanto o procurador-geral do estado, James Uthmeier, também anunciou uma apuração estadual. As versões dos dois governos divergem em pontos fundamentais: quem atirou primeiro e quais eram as verdadeiras intenções dos ocupantes da embarcação.

Nas semanas anteriores ao incidente, o governo Trump havia intensificado sua postura em relação a Cuba, bloqueando o fornecimento de petróleo, reforçando sanções econômicas e ampliando uma retórica de mudança de regime em Havana, em parte como consequência da queda do governo de Nicolás Maduro na Venezuela, principal apoio econômico da ilha. A ONU havia alertado sobre o risco de colapso humanitário diante da profunda crise energética e econômica que atravessa Cuba.

O que é inegável é que este episódio não ocorre de forma isolada. O confronto aconteceu apenas um dia após o 30.º aniversário do abate pelo exército cubano de duas aeronaves da organização cubano-americana Irmãos ao Resgate, em 1996, episódio que também custou quatro vidas e marcou um ponto de ruptura nas relações bilaterais daquela época. A história, ao que parece, tem uma memória incômoda.

Com investigações abertas nos dois países, versões contraditórias e ao menos um cidadão norte-americano entre os mortos, o incidente do Cayo Falcones se configura como um dos episódios mais delicados entre Cuba e os Estados Unidos neste século. Em um contexto de máxima tensão política, econômica e diplomática, a pergunta que paira sobre aquelas águas não é apenas o que aconteceu exatamente naquela noite, mas até onde pode chegar o que veio depois.
