Avión militar que transportaba dinero se estrella en Bolivia; al menos 20 muertos

Avión se sale de la pista en El Alto; billetes quedan esparcidos en el lugar del accidente

La tarde del 27 de febrero de 2026 quedó marcada por una tragedia aérea en Bolivia cuando un avión militar de transporte, que trasladaba billetes destinados a operaciones financieras estatales, perdió el control durante la maniobra de aterrizaje en el Aeropuerto Internacional de El Alto y terminó saliéndose de la pista hacia una zona urbana cercana. El siniestro dejó al menos 20 personas fallecidas y más de 30 heridas, según reportes preliminares de autoridades locales y medios internacionales.

La aeronave, utilizada para operaciones logísticas, había despegado desde Santa Cruz de la Sierra y transportaba una carga de valores vinculada al sistema financiero nacional. De acuerdo con los primeros informes, al momento de tocar tierra habría enfrentado condiciones que aún están bajo investigación, lo que provocó que no lograra frenar dentro del perímetro aeroportuario. El avión atravesó una vía cercana, impactando vehículos y generando una escena de caos en plena hora de tránsito.

Testigos relataron momentos de pánico cuando observaron la aeronave avanzar fuera de la pista envuelta en humo. Fragmentos del fuselaje quedaron dispersos sobre la avenida, mientras equipos de emergencia acudían rápidamente para atender a los heridos y controlar posibles focos de incendio. La magnitud del impacto obligó a suspender temporalmente las operaciones del aeropuerto y a activar protocolos de emergencia en hospitales cercanos.

Uno de los aspectos más llamativos del accidente fue la dispersión de parte de la carga transportada: paquetes con billetes quedaron abiertos tras el choque. Autoridades confirmaron que se trataba de dinero no emitido oficialmente y, por lo tanto, sin validez legal. No obstante, la presencia de efectivo en la vía pública generó desorden momentáneo, lo que llevó al despliegue de fuerzas policiales y militares para asegurar el área y recuperar el material.

El Banco Central y entidades financieras activaron mecanismos preventivos para evitar que los billetes ingresen al circuito económico formal. Asimismo, se iniciaron procesos técnicos para determinar la trazabilidad y eventual destrucción del material comprometido en el accidente.

En paralelo, el gobierno anunció la apertura de una investigación exhaustiva para esclarecer las causas del siniestro. Expertos en aviación analizarán las cajas negras de la aeronave, el estado técnico previo al vuelo, las condiciones meteorológicas y la actuación de la tripulación durante la maniobra de aterrizaje. Las conclusiones podrían tardar semanas, pero las autoridades han prometido transparencia en el proceso.

La tragedia ha generado conmoción nacional y reabre el debate sobre los protocolos de transporte aéreo de valores y la seguridad operacional en aeropuertos ubicados en zonas urbanas densamente pobladas. Mientras continúan las labores de peritaje y atención a las víctimas, el país enfrenta el impacto humano y logístico de uno de los accidentes más graves de los últimos años.
