Lojas fechadas em Havana até a chegada do dólar americano

O avanço da dolarização redefine o comércio em Cuba

No coração de Havana, um simples aviso manuscrito tem chamado a atenção de moradores e turistas por sua mensagem direta: “Fechado. Reabrirá em breve em USD.” Colado com fita adesiva nas portas de vidro de várias lojas do emblemático Hotel Habana Libre, o comunicado resume a etapa mais recente de uma transformação econômica que avança rapidamente pela ilha.

A cena, sem logotipos ou explicações oficiais, contrasta com a rotina de El Vedado, onde o trânsito segue lento diante de fachadas descascadas, enquanto comerciantes e consumidores tentam se adaptar a uma nova realidade: a dolarização de determinados espaços comerciais. Corredores que em outros tempos simbolizavam exclusividade e movimento hoje permanecem fechados, à espera de uma reabertura vinculada ao dólar americano.

O aparente abandono desses estabelecimentos não representa apenas decadência, mas sim o prenúncio de uma reorientação do comércio para vendas realizadas exclusivamente em moeda estrangeira. Nesse contexto, a economia cubana passa por mudanças visíveis, que vão desde a chegada de novos produtos até investimentos em infraestrutura e serviços, sempre condicionados ao acesso ao dólar.

A introdução da moeda americana não altera apenas o que é vendido e a forma de pagamento, mas também a qualidade dos espaços comerciais. Onde antes predominavam iluminação fraca, aparelhos de ar-condicionado avariados e uniformes desgastados, agora se projeta a instalação de novas luminárias, equipamentos eficientes e vestimentas renovadas para os funcionários. A expectativa é que, com a retomada das operações no Hotel Habana Libre, problemas antigos como infiltrações, odores e abandono estrutural sejam finalmente solucionados.

Os cubanos acompanham essas mudanças com sentimentos diversos. Para alguns, a presença do dólar representa acesso a produtos de melhor qualidade, maior variedade e um nível de serviço que havia desaparecido das prateleiras. Para outros, simboliza uma ruptura econômica que exclui aqueles que dependem apenas do peso cubano, uma moeda com poder de compra cada vez mais reduzido.

Na prática, a dolarização criou segmentos de mercado nos quais o acesso é determinado pela posse de divisas, principalmente o dólar americano, conhecido localmente como fula. Essa dinâmica reforça uma dualidade econômica: enquanto alguns conseguem adquirir bens importados e novidades, outros enfrentam restrições crescentes às suas possibilidades de consumo dentro do próprio país.

O fechamento das lojas do Habana Libre reflete uma tendência mais ampla que se estende a diversas regiões de Cuba. Nos últimos meses, muitos estabelecimentos anunciaram fechamentos temporários com avisos semelhantes, todos ligados à transição para vendas em USD. A redistribuição de estoques, a melhoria dos serviços e a adoção de sistemas de pagamento em moeda estrangeira tornaram-se etapas centrais desse processo.

Embora ainda não exista um anúncio oficial detalhando a estratégia completa do governo cubano em relação à dolarização da economia, seus efeitos já são perceptíveis na vida urbana. Nas ruas e mercados de Havana, o fulbito — como é chamado informalmente o dólar — passou a desempenhar um papel decisivo, moldando novas formas de comércio e consumo.

Essa transformação não afeta apenas a economia formal, mas também as expectativas de quem depende de bens e serviços básicos. À medida que a dolarização avança, surgem questionamentos sobre inclusão, equidade e acesso em uma economia que tenta se reorganizar sob a pressão da dependência de divisas externas e da necessidade de revitalizar setores produtivos estagnados.
