Venezuela libera a ciudadanos estadounidenses en medio de una amplia excarcelación de presos tras la captura de Maduro

Liberaciones generan expectativas y dudas diplomáticas

Venezuela ha comenzado a liberar a varios ciudadanos estadounidenses que se encontraban detenidos en cárceles del país, según confirmó el Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos, en un desarrollo destacado que se produce en medio del proceso de excarcelación masiva de reclusos tras la captura del expresidente Nicolás Maduro por fuerzas estadounidenses. Funcionarios norteamericanos señalaron que varios estadounidenses fueron puestos en libertad esta semana, aunque no especificaron el número exacto de personas liberadas ni sus identidades, destacando que al menos cuatro fueron liberados el martes, y uno adicional un día antes, en lo que describieron como “un paso importante en la dirección correcta” por parte de las autoridades venezolanas. La liberación se produce en paralelo a una amplia política de excarcelaciones anunciada por la dirigencia venezolana tras la captura de Maduro. El presidente de la Asamblea Nacional, Jorge Rodríguez, declaró que se liberarían un “número significativo” de presos tanto venezolanos como extranjeros como un gesto hacia la paz. Sin embargo, las cifras oficiales son objeto de controversia: mientras el gobierno ha afirmado que más de 400 personas han sido liberadas, organizaciones de derechos humanos estiman cifras mucho menores, con decenas de excarcelaciones verificadas hasta el momento. Además de los estadounidenses, otras naciones han visto la liberación de sus ciudadanos. Por ejemplo, España confirmó la liberación de cinco de sus nacionales, incluidos activistas y figuras de la sociedad civil, en la primera fase de las excarcelaciones de enero de 2026. (lemonde.fr)

A pesar de estas salidas, organizaciones como Foro Penal y Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón han señalado que cientos de presos políticos permanecen en prisión, incluso después de las recientes liberaciones, y han resaltado la falta de transparencia oficial sobre los nombres y condiciones de los excarcelados.
