Favorable changes due to the adoption of new digital technologies

Colombia has experienced an advance in the adoption of digital technologies in recent years. This has transformed several aspects of the daily lives of Colombians. One of the main sectors that has been impacted by digitalization has been the financial sector. Banking entities have promoted the use of mobile applications and online platforms, thus encouraging users to carry out their transactions, payments and transfers without having to go to a bank branch. In addition, by incorporating digital wallets, they have left the possibility open to those people who are looking for other banking system alternatives. Payments have been facilitated and solutions provided for users, this has been especially promoted by companies such as Rappi, Davivienda and Bancolombia. The entertainment sector has also gained ground in Colombia, especially due to the arrival of different streaming platforms such as Netflix, Spotify and YouTube. On the other hand, online games have experienced a large increase in the number of players on these multiplayer platforms. Even the rise of online casinos has been evident, which offer a variety of games from the comfort of their homes. Online or virtual education is not far behind, it has been implemented since the pandemic. It has been one of the sectors that has benefited the most from digitalization. Platforms such as Coursera, edX and the National University of Colombia have facilitated access to quality educational programs. This has allowed Colombians from different parts of the country to study and those from rural areas of the country to access education without the limitation offered by face-to-face education. In Colombia, 60% of companies have adopted strategies for digital adaptation and transformation, these have incorporated technologies such as the Internet of Things, virtual and augmented reality, and 5G networks. In addition, the national government has approved a national artificial intelligence policy to promote its development and use in the country.
